  • Do You Need to Cook BARF?
Our BARF diet is fully ready for consumption after thawing. However, if your pet requires cooked food, you can thaw and boil the product. Before cooking, make sure to remove the contents from the vacuum packaging and boil ONLY the contents of the bag. There is no need to add any other ingredients to the BARF, as it is already completely balanced.
It's also important not to reheat the product in the microwave! Simply place the package in the refrigerator or thaw it at room temperature naturally.
    Thawing Tips:
Advance Preparation: Ideally, take out two packages of frozen food (for breakfast and dinner) the night before and place them in the refrigerator for smoother thawing.
We recommend thawing one additional package (keeping it in the coldest part of the fridge so it thaws last). This way, you free up space in the freezer and ensure you have time to thaw the evening portion for dinner, even if you forget to do it in advance.
Before serving the BARF, allow the food to sit in the bowl for 15-30 minutes at room temperature. This can help prevent gastrointestinal issues. Keep in mind that frozen treats are acceptable and safe for pets.

  • Can You Refreeze BARF?
If your BARF food has been fully thawed and started releasing juices, we do not recommend refreezing it!
  • Is Your Dog Refusing or Struggling with BARF?
Switching your dog to a natural BARF diet can come with some challenges, especially if they’re used to processed foods with chemical additives and flavor enhancers. These habits can take time to form, and sudden changes in their diet may be met with resistance.
So, what can you do in this situation? There are a few approaches:
Strict transition: If you’re determined for your dog to only eat natural food, you can completely eliminate all other types of food from their diet. This method requires commitment, but it can lead to significant improvements in your dog’s health over time.
Gradual introduction: A more gentle approach involves slowly introducing BARF into your dog’s meals. Start by mixing small portions of natural food with their regular food, gradually increasing the amount of BARF each day. We recommend this strategy, as it allows your dog to adapt to the new diet without stress.
Choosing dry food: If the switch to a natural diet doesn’t work, you can always stick with dry food. Just make sure you choose a high-quality product that meets your dog’s nutritional needs.

  • How to Calculate a Balanced Diet for Dogs?
A balanced diet is key to your pet's health and longevity. The foundation of this diet consists of raw meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, berries, greens, and herbs. Let's explore how to properly calculate the macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates) for dogs on a BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) diet.
    Proteins
Proteins are the building blocks of the body. They support muscle development, skin and coat health, and play a crucial role in the immune system. In raw dog diets, proteins are the cornerstone because dogs are naturally carnivores.
It is recommended that 60-80% of the daily diet consists of meat, fish, or poultry. The quality and freshness of these products are essential as they directly affect your pet's health. The main sources of protein in a BARF diet are muscle meat, offal, and fish.
    Fats
Fats are necessary for energy maintenance, vitamin absorption, and skin health. They should make up around 10-20% of a dog's total diet. Fats primarily come from meats, especially fatty varieties like lamb or pork, as well as fish (such as salmon).
However, too much fat can lead to obesity and other health issues, so it’s important to maintain balance based on the dog’s needs and activity level.
    Carbohydrates
While dogs can derive energy from carbohydrates, they are not essential for carnivores. In a BARF diet, carbs mainly come from vegetables, greens, and berries, which also provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber to aid digestion.
Dogs don’t need high levels of carbohydrates, so their proportion in the diet should be around 5-10%.
    Individual Calculation
When calculating macronutrients, it’s important to consider the dog’s age, size, activity level, and health. For example, active dogs with high physical demands need more proteins and fats, while less active pets may require lower-calorie diets.
A basic formula for calculating daily portions is to feed 2-4% of the dog's body weight. This portion is then divided into 60-80% protein, 10-20% fat, and 5-10% carbohydrates.
A balanced BARF diet helps maintain a dog's optimal health by providing all the necessary nutrients. Regularly monitoring protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake, and adjusting the diet according to your pet's needs, is the key to their long-term health and well-being.
  • Can You Feed Dry and Raw Food Together?
When it comes to feeding dogs, many owners face the question of whether it's possible to combine dry kibble and raw meat. This is an important aspect that requires careful consideration, as improper combinations can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies or excesses, ultimately harming your pet's health.
Why is it Important to Be Cautious?
Dry kibble, especially complete formulas, is designed to provide dogs with all the necessary nutrients. It includes vitamins, minerals, and trace elements that are balanced according to the pet's needs. Adding meat to the diet can affect the absorption of these components.
For instance, meat is rich in phosphorus but lacks adequate calcium, fat-soluble vitamins, and other essential micronutrients. This imbalance can disrupt the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, which is crucial for a dog's skeletal system. Additionally, the dog may start eating less of the dry kibble due to the meat additions, leading to a deficiency in other important nutrients.
Is it Okay to Mix Dry and Wet Food?
Sometimes, owners wish to mix dry kibble with wet food or meat from different manufacturers. In such cases, it's important to remember that each manufacturer calculates portions and formulations separately. Without specific knowledge of the vitamin and mineral content in each product, you risk creating a nutritional imbalance.
    When is This Acceptable?
Adding small portions of meat to the diet, not exceeding 10% of total caloric intake, is usually safe. This amount of meat won't significantly alter the overall nutrient balance, especially if the dry food is of high quality and nutritionally complete. However, more substantial dietary changes require careful calculations.
    Diet Stability
Another important rule is that the diet should remain stable. If you start adding meat to dry kibble, this should be a consistent practice. For example, if you're adding 20 grams of turkey to daily 100 grams of dry food, this should remain unchanged. Switching between products—like beef to chicken or cottage cheese to fish—without considering fats and other nutrients can lead to digestive issues.
Mixing dry kibble and raw meat can be permissible, but only if certain rules are followed. If you want to diversify your pet's diet, it's crucial to consult with a veterinarian or a nutritionist to maintain balance and ensure your dog's health.
